“Roots and Branches” history conference will recognize Michigan churches 175 and older.
Michigan congregations! Do you know how old your church is? The Michigan Area United Methodist Church Historical Society wants to know if your church is 175 years or older.
Those churches founded in 1842 or before (175 years or older) need to notify the Michigan Area United Methodist Church Historical Society (MAUMCHS) by April 1 in order for certificates to be prepared to celebrate your history. Contact Diana Miller at email@example.com or call Diana at 989-426-2644 with the information and you will receive the certificate application.
These certificates will be presented as part of the United Methodist History Convocation on Saturday, April 22, being held at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. The theme is “Roots and Branches – 2017” and will include an overview of the history of the United Methodist Church by Diana Miller and a workshop by both of our conference archivists — Rebecca McNitt (Adrian College) and Justin Seidler (Albion College) — sharing about their work and how the Archives can help the local church historian. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Chris Momany from Adrian College speaking on, “The Art of Hearing to Speech” helping past voices come alive.
The Society hopes that at least one representative of each church being recognized will be able to attend the convocation and receive the certificate, which is suitable for framing. Persons from the entire Michigan Area, especially historians of churches, those interested in church history and preserving it, clergy and lay will want to attend. Click here for registration.
