The Sixth Annual Hands4Detroit is this Saturday, October 7, 2017.
It’s no coincidence that Hands4Detroit is always the Saturday after World Communion Sunday. Indeed, all are welcome to the table!
This year, volunteers will respond to John Wesley’s call to “social holiness,” by performing cleaning, beautification, small building, and feeding projects in Southwest Detroit. Our hands will also pray, give donations, provide hospitality, sort food and make lunches.
A word about this year’s host congregation. Centro Familiar Cristiano UMC, the Detroit Renaissance District’s only Hispanic ministry is a new church start. Two to three members joined in the spring of 2015 and blossomed into a summer program of 80 children three months later. By Christmas, 100 members were worshipping at the church. Volunteers from Beverly Hills, Scott Memorial and Brightmoor (Aldersgate) UMCs will serve as a Burrito Brigade, joining the team from Centro Familiar Cristiano to learn how to make 700 burritos for Hands4Detroit lunches
